ABSTRACT

Objective:To summarize the clinical and imaging presentations of stapical footplate hernia related to inner ear malformation (SFH-Re-IEM).Methods:The clinical and imaging data of 19 patients (24 ears) with SFH-Re-IEM from Shandong Provincial ENT Hospital between June 2014 to June 2022 were retrospectively analyzed. The clinical presentations and headache and the high resolution CT (HRCT) and MRI findings including associated inner ear malformation (IEM) type, internal auditory canal (IAC) malformation, bony defect of the stapical footplate, the extent, margin, density and signal of the herniation cysts, the density and signal of ipsilateral intratympanic, cochlear osseous labyrinthitis were recorded. Results:Among 19 SFH-Re-IEM patients, including 14 males and 5 females, 3 (1, 12) years old. All of the affected ears presented sensorineural or mixed hearing loss, 1 ear for moderate, 7 ears for severe and 16 ears for extremely severe. Besides this, the vertigo in 1 case, otalgia and ear fullness in 2 cases were found, and the others were detected accidentally. Among 24 ears with SFH-Re-IEM, 9 ears (37.5%) consisting with incomplete partition type Ⅰ, 3 ears (12.5%) with common cavity, 7 ears (29.2%) with cochlear aplasia, 3 ears (12.5%) with cochlear dysplasia type Ⅱ, and 2 ears (8.3%) with Mondini deformity were found respectively. Four ears (16.7%) were associated with IAC enlargement and the bony defect of IAC fundus, 19 ears (79.2%) were accompanied with dysplasia in the IAC fundus. In all the 24 ears with SFH-Re-IEM, the focal bony defect of the affected stapical footplate and the hemispherical soft-tissue-density herniating cysts protruding into the tympanium were presented on HRCT, and the herniating cysts presenting the cerebrospinal fluid-like signal with the well-defined margin and the ipsilateral normal tympanium were shown on the MRI hydrographic sequence. Two ears underwent the perilymphaticum gadolinium based on MRI, which demonstrated the hypersignal gadolinium in the perilymphatic space entered into the herniating cysts. Two ears were accompanied with the cochlear osseous labyrinthitis. Conclusion:The ears with IEM-Re-SFH usually present the serious hearing loss. The ipsilateral severe IEM, focal bony defect of the stapical footplate and perilymph herniating are characteristic imaging appearances.

ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo investigate the effect and mechanism of Nongsuo Dangguiwan in improving ovarian oxidative stress in rats with ovarian dysfunction. MethodThirty-six adult female SD rats were randomly divided into normal group, model group, positive drug group (Femoston, 0.3 mg·kg-1), and high-, medium-, and low-dose groups of concentrated Nongsuo Dangguiwan (2.08, 4.16, 8.32 g·kg-1), with six rats in each group. Rats, except for those in the normal group, were injected with 80 mg·kg-1 vinyl cyclohexene dioxide (VCD) per day for 14 consecutive days to induce ovarian dysfunction. From the 15th day, rats were treated with corresponding drugs by gavage, while those in the model group received 2 mL·kg-1 saline, once daily for 28 consecutive days. The ovarian index, levels of related hormones including estradiol (E2), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), and anti-mullerian hormone (AMH) in serum, as well as superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and glutathione (GSH) content in serum were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The malondialdehyde (MDA) content in serum was detected by the thiobarbituric acid (TAB) method. Ovarian morphology was observed by hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining. The expression of nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), SOD2, and SOD1 in ovarian tissues was detected by immunohistochemistry (IHC) and Western blot. ResultCompared with the normal group, the model group showed a significant reduction in growing follicles in the ovary, loose arrangement of granulosa cells in the follicle, decreased body weight, ovarian index, and serum AMH and E2 levels, increased LH and FSH levels (P<0.01), reduced levels of SOD and GSH in serum (P<0.01), and increased MDA level (P<0.01). Compared with the model group, the groups with drug intervention showed increased ovarian index (P<0.05, P<0.01), increased serum E2 level (P<0.05, P<0.01), decreased FSH, AMH, and LH levels (P<0.05, P<0.01), increased number of growing follicles in the ovary, potentiated SOD activity in serum, increased GSH content, decreased MDA content (P<0.05, P<0.01), and up-regulated expression levels of Nrf2, HO-1, SOD2, and SOD1 proteins in ovarian tissues (P<0.05, P<0.01). ConclusionNongsuo Dangguiwan can regulate serum hormone levels, increase the expression of Nrf2, HO-1, SOD2, and SOD1 in ovarian tissues, and improve ovarian antioxidant capacity to resist oxidative stress injury, thereby improving ovarian reserve function.

ABSTRACT

The present study investigated the main components of fenugreek(Trigonella foenum-graecum L.) leaf flavonoids(FLFs) and their antioxidant activity. FLFs were prepared and enriched by solvent extraction, and the flavonoids were characterized by high-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole-time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry(HPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS). The protective effect of FLFs against H_2O_2-induced stress damage to L02 hepatocytes was also investigated. Firstly, the cell viability was measured by MTT assay. The oxidative stress injury model was induced by H_2O_2 in L02 cells. The release of lactate dehydrogenase(LDH), the content of reduced glutathione(GSH) and malondialdehyde(MDA), and the activities of superoxide dismutase(SOD) and catalase(CAT) were measured by assay kits. Hoechst fluorescence staining was performed to observe the cell apoptosis. The expression levels of c-Jun N-terminal kinase(JNK), extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2(ERK1/2), nuclear factor erythroid-2 related factor 2(Nrf2), heme oxygenase 1(HO-1), and their phosphorylated proteins were detected by Western blot. Based on the MS fragment ion information and data in databases, FLFs contained eight flavonoids with quercetin and kaempferol as the main aglycons. The cell viabi-lity assay revealed that as compared with the conditions in the H_2O_2 treatment group, 3.125-25 μg·mL~(-1) FLFs could increase the viability of L02 cells, reduce LDH release and MDA content in a dose-dependent manner, potentiate the activities of SOD, CAT, and GSH, decrease the phosphorylation of JNK and ERK1/2 proteins, and up-regulate the expression of Nrf2 and HO-1. The results of fluorescence staining showed that the nucleus of the H_2O_2 treatment group showed concentrated and dense strong blue fluorescence, while the blue fluorescence intensity of the FLFs group decreased significantly. FLFs showed a protective effect against H_2O_2-induced oxidative damage in L02 cells, and the underlying mechanism is associated with the enhancement of cell capability in clearing oxygen free radicals and the inhibition of apoptosis by the activation of the MAPKs/Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway. The antioxidant effect of fenugreek leaf is related to its rich flavonoids.

ABSTRACT

Objective: The characteristics of 3D-FLAIR MRI images of the inner ear of patients with vestibular neuritis were preliminarily studied to explore the possible pathogenesis of vestibular neuritis, and the correlation analysis was conducted in combination with vestibular function to provide a basis for accurate diagnosis of vestibular neuritis. Methods: A total of 36 patients with vestibular neuritis (VN) from December 2019 to October 2020 were collected from the Vertigo Department of Shandong Provincial ENT Hospital, Cheeloo College of Medicine, Shandong University. There were 36 cases (18 females, 18 males) with unilateral acute vestibular neuritis, 17 cases of left ear and 19 cases of right ear. According to the results of 3D-FLAIR MRI in the inner ears, the patients were divided into the enhanced group and the non-enhanced group (the health side served as the normal control group). The results of vestibular function examination in the two groups were compared. SPSS19.0 software was used for statistical processing to analyze the relationship between the vestibular function and the characteristics of 3D-FLAIR imaging in the inner ears. Results: Abnormal enhancement of 3D-FLAIR was found in 31 cases (86.1%) of the 36 cases, including 14 cases of both vestibular nerve and vestibular terminal organ enhancement, eight cases of superior vestibular nerve enhancement alone, seven cases of vestibular terminal organ enhancement alone, and two cases of cochlear enhancement alone. Observation of abnormal reinforcement of vestibular nerve showed: twenty-one cases of superior vestibular nerve reinforcement, one case of superior and inferior vestibular nerve reinforcement. No abnormalities were found in 3D-FLAIR of inner ear in 5 cases. According to the analysis of vestibular function results, there were 19 cases (52.8%) with total vestibular involvement, sixteen cases (44.4%) with superior vestibular involvement alone, and one case (2.8%) with inferior vestibular involvement alone. Comparison of vestibular function between the five cases (non-enhancement group) and the 31 cases (enhanced group) in the 3D-FLAIR group of the inner ears showed that the CP values of caloric tests in the enhanced group were higher (60.81±3.49 vs 34.12±7.37), with statistically significant difference (t=-2.898, P<0.01). Conclusion: In patients with vestibular neuritis, 3D-FLAIR MRI scan of the inner ear provides visual imaging evidence for clinical practice, considering that the lesion site of vestibular neuritis is not only in the vestibular nerve, but also in the vestibular end organ. Patients with 3D-FLAIR enhanced in the inner ear may have more significant vestibular function damage.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To study the correlation between immune cell infiltration in colorectal cancer tissue and clinical prognosis and to explore the levels of some immune cell genes for predicting the prognosis of patients with glioma colorectal cancer.@*METHODS@#In this study, we extracted colorectal cancer data from the cancer genome atlas (TCGA). Based on a deconvolution algorithm (called CIBERSORT) and clinically annotated expression profiles, the analysis assessed the infiltration patterns of 22 immune cells in colorectal cancer tissue to determine the association between each cell type and survival. Differences in five-year survival rate effectively illustrate the clinical prognostic value of each immune cell proportion in colorectal cancer, using a bar graph, correlation-based heatmap to represent the proportion of immune cells in each colorectal cancer sample.@*RESULTS@#A total of 473 colorectal cancer tissues and 41 normal control tissues were extracted from the TCGA database, and the comparative analysis showed that there were differences in the proportion of various TIICs in colorectal cancer tissues, which could characterize individual differences and have prognostic value. Among the cell subsets studied, the proportions of memory B cells, plasma cells, CD4+ T cells, natural killer (NK) cells, M0 macrophages, M2 macrophages, and activated mast cells were significantly different between normal and cancer tissues. Resting NK cells, CD8+ T cells, and plasma cells were associated with T phase, activated dendritic cells were associated with N phase, and eosinophils, M1 macrophages, and activated mast cells were associated with M phase. Survival analysis showed that activated dendritic cells were positively associated with five-year survival rate in colorectal cancer patients. Naive CD4+ T cells were inversely associated with five-year survival rate.@*CONCLUSION@#There are different degrees of immune cell infiltration in colorectal cancer tissues, and these differences may be important determinants of prognosis and treatment response. We conducted a new gene expression-based study of immune cell subtype levels and prognosis in colorectal cancer, which has potential clinical prognostic value in colorectal cancer patients.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the effects of ligustrazine combined with emodin on angiogenesis of ascites carcinoma Walker-256 cells by observing their inhibition against nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB), hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α), and vascular endothelial growth factor-C (VEGF-C) in HIF signaling pathway. Method:Fifty SD rats were randomly divided into sham operation group, model group, ligustrazine group, emodin group and ligustrazine combined with emodin group. Following the in situ injection of rat ascites carcinoma Walker-256 cells into the liver of normal rats, they were grouped and administered with ligustrazine (10 mg·kg-1), emodin (10 mg·kg-1), and ligustrazine (10 mg·kg-1) plus emodin (10 mg·kg-1) for seven days. Afterwards, the tumor-inoculated liver tissue was sampled from the experimental group and prepared into pathological sections for investigating tumor cell survival and VEGF expression. The in vitro hypoxia and hypoglycemia model (oxygen-glucose deprivation model), hypoxia model, and hypoglycemia model of Walker-256 cells were constructed respectively. In the ligustrazine group, emodin group, and ligustrazine combined with emodin group, three consecutive concentrations that did not affect the proliferation of Walker-256 cells were selected for investigation. The drugs were administered before modeling, and the model treatment lasted for 4 h. The levels of HIF-1α, VEGF-C, and NF-κB in the cell culture supernatant of each group were tested. Result:After the rat liver was inoculated with Walker-256 cells, the total liver mass was significantly increased(P<0.05), higher than that in the ligustrazine group, the emodin group, or the ligustrazine combined with emodin group(P<0.05). Histopathological examination showed that the response of VEGF expression in the liver tissue of each administration group was lower than that of the model group. At the cellular level, the levels of HIF-1α, VEGF-C, and NF-κB in oxygen-glucose deprivation model of the ligustrazine group and the ligustrazine combined with emodin group were significantly reduced(P<0.05), exhibiting a certain dose-dependent response, followed by the reduction in the hypoxia model. The levels of HIF-1α and NF-κB in the oxygen-glucose deprivation model and the hypoglycemia model of the emodin(1×10-2,1×10-3 mol·L-1) group and the ligustrazine combined with emodin(1×10-2,1×10-3 mol·L-1) group were significantly reduced, but there was no significant change in VEGF-C level of the hypoxia model of all the administration groups. Conclusion:Ligustrazine or emodin alone or their combination inhibits the abnormal increase in the weight of rat liver after inoculation with Walker-256 cells and the expression of VEGF in the liver tissue. Ligustrazine and emodin inhibit the protein expression of NF-κB and HIF-1α, thereby reducing the gene and protein expression of metastasis-related target VEGF-A activated by HIF-1α transcription, restricting tumor cell neovascularization, and inhibiting the invasion and spread of ascites carcinoma cells. Among them, ligustrazine has the most significant effect against hypoxia. Glucose interferes with the effect of ligustrazine. The combination of ligustrazine with emodin is conducive to diminishing the intervention of glucose and stabilizing the inhibition against tumor cells.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To explore the correlations of different appearances of labyrinthine 3D-FLAIR MRI with clinical features and prognosis in patients with idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss (ISSNHL). Methods: Clinical data of patients with unilateral ISSNHL hospitalized from May 2017 to January 2019 were retrospectively analyzed. According to the results of 3D-FLAIR MRI, the patients were divided into three groups including hyperintense with absorption, hyperintense without absorption and normal. The differences and correlations among the three groups in clinical characteristics (gender, age, deafness side, duration, treatment days, dizziness/vertigo, basic diseases, vestibular function, deafness classification and typing) and prognosis were analyzed by SPSS 20.0 software. Results: Data were collected from 1 245 cases, including 739 (59.36%) with normal signal, 288 (23.13%) hyperintense without absorption, and 218 (17.51%) hyperintense with absorption. The side ratio, treatment days, dizziness/vertigo incidence, vestibular dysfunction, deafness classification and typing were different among the three groups (P<0.001). The incidence of right side was significantly higher in both the hyperintense with and without absorption groups than that in the normal. The vestibular dysfunction was more common in the hyperintense with absorption group than in the normal and hyperintense without absorption groups. It showed statistical differences in the dizziness/vertigo incidence, deafness classification, treatment days, and deafness typing compared between groups, which was the most significant in the hyperintense with absorption group, followed by the hyperintense without absorption group. There was no statistical difference in the total effective rate among the three groups (P=0.139), whereas a significant difference in the recovery rate (P<0.001). The prognosis was significantly correlated with duration, age, treatment days and dizziness/vertigo in the normal group (all P<0.001), correlated with duration and treatment days in the hyperintense with absorption group (both P<0.001), only correlated with the duration in the hyperintense without absorption group (P<0.001). Conclusion: 3D-FLAIR MRI manifestation is closely related to the clinical features and efficacy of ISSNHL. It is helpful to clarify the pathology of inner ear, which is expected to be a new imaging indicator for disease evaluation.

ABSTRACT

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is an important cause of vision loss and blindness in diabetic patients. Studies have shown that neurodegenerative changes have occurred before diabetic retinal microvascular injury, such as reactive glial increase and ganglion cell apoptosis, and endoplasmic reticulum stress is involved in this process.Studies have shown that neurodegenerative changes have occurred before diabetic retinal microvascular injury, mainly as ganglion cell apoptosis, and endoplasmic reticulum stress is involved in this process. The UPR has three signal paths:the ATF6 signal path, the PERK signal path, and the IRE1 signal path.It is closely related to oxidative stress, inflammation, apoptosis, BRB destruction and angiogenesis in the DR process.Exploring the intrinsic mechanism of ERS and ganglion cell injury is of great significance for finding new effective drugs to prevent or treat diabetic patients.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the effect of rosiglitazone on the protein expression of AMPK and GLUT4 in peripheral tissue (liver, skeletal muscle and fat) of type 2 diabetic db/db mice and to prove that rosiglitazone can regulate the glucose metabolism in db/db mice partly through the AMPK pathway. Methods db/db mice were randomly divided into model group and rosiglitazone group according to their blood glucose. The db/m mice were normal control group. After 4 weeks of administration, fasting blood glucose was detected in each group.Western blot was used to detect the contents of AMPK, p-AMPK and GLUT4 in liver, skeletal muscle and adipose tissue. Results (1) Rosiglitazone significantly reduced the fasting blood glucose of db/db mice; (2)Rosiglitazone increased the level of AMPK phosphorylation in the liver, skeletal muscle and adipose tissue of db/db mice, and increased the content of GLUT4 protein in skeletal muscle and adipose tissue. Conclusion Rosiglitazone can increase the phosphorylation of AMPK and the expression of GLUT4 protein in the liver, muscle and fat tissue of db/db mice, and promote the uptake and utilization of glucose in peripheral tissue, suggesting that it can regulate glucose metabolism in db/db mice partly through the AMPK pathway.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To investigate the influencing factors on prognosis of adult patients with chronic primary immune thrombocytopeuia (ITP) after rituximab treatment and predictive value of platelet (Plt) count.@*METHODS@#Clinical data of 52 adult patients with chronic primary ITP treated with rituximab from January 2012 to December 2016 were retrospectively analyzed, including 32 patients for failed in treatment as group A and 20 patients for succeeded in treatment as group B. The independent risk factors influencing the clinical efficacy of rituximab were analyzed. The influence of CD41 megakaryocyte count in bone marrow diagnosed for first time on the response rate of patients with 1-year followed-up were observed, and the Plt count were calculated to predict the clinical efficacy index and the best cut-off point.@*RESULTS@#The CD41 megakaryocyte count in bone marrow for first time treatment in group B were significantly higher than that in group A (P<0.05). Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that the number of CD41 megakaryocytes in bone marrow<150 at first diagnosis was the independent risk factor influencing the clinical efficacy of rituximab (OR=5.40,95%CI:1.82-15.66,P=0.00). The response rate of 1-year followed-up in patients with CD41 megakaryocyte count ≥150 at first diagnosis was significantly higher than that of CD41 megakaryocyte count <150 (P<0.05). The Plt count level in group B was significantly lower than that in group A at the 3rd, 14th, 21th, 30th, 60th, 90th, 180th, 270th and 360th days after first treatment with rituximab (P<0.05). ROC curve analysis showed that the best cut-off point for Plt count was 50×10/L and AUC was 0.68 at the 14th day after first treatment with rituximab (95%CI: 0.57-0.78, P=0.00). The predictive sensitivity and specificity of clinical efficacy in adult patients with chronic primary ITP treated with rituximab were separately 48.73% and 87.58%, and the AUC in 30th and 60th day after rituximab treatment were separately 0.74 (95%CI: 0.64-0.87, P=0.00), 0.93 (95%CI:0.82-0.98,P=0.00).@*CONCLUSION@#Adult patients with chronic primary ITP may possess long-term remission after rituximab treatment, but the prognosis is poor for patients with bone marrow megakaryocyte count <150. The Plt counts in 14th, 30th and 60th days after rituximab treatment can effectively predict the long-term clinical efficacy and guide the formulation of treatment plans.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE:To study the effects of loganin on the prolife ration and apoptosis of liver cancer HepG 2 cells, and to explore its mechanism. METHODS :CCK-8 assay was used to detect the effects of different concentrations (10,25,50,100, 150,200,300,400 µg/mL)of loganin on the proliferation activity of HepG 2 cells for 24 and 48 h. HepG 2 cells were divided into control group ,loganin low-concentration ,medium-concentration and high-concentration groups (50,100,150 μ g/mL). After treated for 24 h,morphological changes of apoptosis of cells were detected by Hoechst 33342 fluorescence staining. The apoptosis and cycle distribution of cells were detected by flow cytometry. Western blotting was used to detect protein expression of Cyclin D1, PCNA, Bcl-2, Caspase-3, Cleaved-Caspase-3, Caspase-9 and Cleaved-Caspase- 9. RESULTS : Loganin inhibited the proliferation of HepG 2 cells,in concentration-dependent trend. Compared with control group ,apoptosis as pyknosis and fragmentation occurred ,and the apoptosis rate increased significantly in loganin low-concentration ,medium-concentration and high-concentration groups (P<0.01);the cell were mainly blocked in S phase ;relative protein expression of Cyclin D 1,PCNA and Caspase- 3 were significantly decreased ,while that of Cleaved-Caspase- 3 were significantly increased in loganin low- concentration, medium-concentration and high-concentration groups (P<0.05 or P<0.01); relative protein expression of Cleaved-Caspase-9 were increased significantly ,while that of Bcl- 2 and Caspase- 9 were decreased significantly in loganin medium-concentration and high-concentration groups (P<0.05 or P<0.01). CONCLUSIONS :Loganin can significantly inhibit the proliferation and induce apoptosis of HepG 2 cells, the mechanism of which may be associated with inhibiting Bcl- 2 protein expression and promoting Caspase- 3,Caspase-9 activation.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the effects of hypoxia on the expression of inflammatory factor high mobility group box-l(HMGB1) in the pulmonary arteriolae of neonatal SD rats.Method A total of 80 neonatal SD rats were randomly assigned into control group and hypoxia-induced persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn model (PPHN) group. The PPHN group was subdivided into 2 h,8 h,24 h,and 3 d post-PPHN subgroups according to the time of sacrifice.PPHN model was established on postnatal day 4 when rat pups in PPHN group were kept in low-oxygen box (10% O2 and 90% N2) for consecutively 7 days.Multi-channel physiological transducer RM-6280 was used recording the mean pulmonary artery pressure (mPAP) at the root to pulmonary artery of rat pups.ELISA method was used examining the serum level of HMGB1 of rat pups in each group. The pathology of the lung tissue was studied using optical microscope after HE staining, and MIAS-2000 medical image analysis software was used to calculate the ratio of the middle membrane thickness to the outer diameter of the pulmonary arteriolae wall (MT%).Protein level of HMGB1 in the lung was examined using Western Blot.Result The lung pathology in PPHN rats showed thickening of the middle membrane of the pulmonary arteriolae wall and stenosis of the pulmonary arteriolae.MT% of control group and PPHN group were 5.3% (3.7%,7.6%) and 7.1% (4.6%,9.2%),respectively,without significant differences (P>0.05).At 2 h,8 h,24 h,3 d post-PPHN timepoints, the serum levels of HMGB1 in PPHN group were (13.2±3.1),(15.4±3.6),(17.1±3.5),and (15.8±3.6) ng/ml,respectively,without intra-subgroup differences (F=2.134,P>0.05),but significant differences existed when compared with control group at each timepoint (P<0.01).Western Blot showed that HMGB1 protein expression in the lungs were significantly elevated soon after PPHN,peaked at 8~24 h,and reduced but still significantly elevated at 3 d after PPHN comparing with normal control.Significant differences existed at 2 h,8 h,and 24 h timepoints (P<0.01,respectively).The HMGB1 protein of PPHN group declined significantly at 3 d timepoint without significant differences comparing with the control group (P>0.05).Conclusion HMGB1 is closely related with the pathogenesis of PPHN,indicating the inflammatory response plays an important role in the mechanisms of PPHN.HMGB1 may be an indicator for the assessment of hypoxia-induced PPHN.

ABSTRACT

Objective To translate the new empathy questionnaire for children and early adoles-cents into Chinese. Then to test its reliability and validity so as to provide a new and convenient tool for ac-cessing the empathy ability of children and early adolescents. Methods The Chinese version of the new em-pathy questionnaire was developed based on the translation and back translation. And its revision was adapted according to Chinese culture. By multistage stratified and cluster random sampling method,a questionnaire survey was conducted among 840 pupils in two primary schools in Dalian and Tieling of Liaoning province. SPSS 20. 0 and AMOS 22. 0 software were used to analyze the data. Results The item content validity inde-xes (I-CVI) were 0. 830-1. 000,S-CVI/UA was 0. 875 and SCVI/Ave was 0. 979. The exploratory factor a-nalysis (EFA) indicated five factors those explained 66. 922% of the total variance. The confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) showed that five-factor model fit well(χ2/df=1. 438,RMR=0. 028,RMSEA=0. 033,GFI=0. 964,AGFI=0. 946,TLI=0. 968,IFI=0. 976,CFI=0. 976,PGFI=0. 643 ). The Cronbach's α coefficient was 0. 813 and the re-test reliability was 0. 820. Conclusion The new empathy questionnaire is a reliable, valid, simple and feasible instrument to evaluate the empathetic ability of Chinese children and early adoles-cents.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To compare the image quality of three-dimensional time-of-flight (TOF) magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) with sparse undersampling and iterative reconstruction (sparse TOF) with that of conventional TOF MRA. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study included 56 patients who had undergone sparse TOF MRA for intracranial artery evaluation on a 3T MR scanner. Conventional TOF MRA scans were also acquired from 29 patients with matched acquisition times and another 27 patients with matched scanning parameters. The image quality was scored using a five-point scale based on the delineation of arterial vessel segments, artifacts, overall vessel visualization, and overall image quality by two radiologists independently, and the data were analyzed using the non-parametric Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Contrast ratios (CRs) of vessels were compared using the paired t test. Interobserver agreement was calculated using the kappa test. RESULTS: Compared with conventional TOF at the same spatial resolution, sparse TOF with an acceleration factor of 3.5 could reduce acquisition time by 40% and showed comparable image quality. In addition, when compared with conventional TOF with the same acquisition time, sparse TOF with an acceleration factor of 5 could also achieve higher spatial resolution, better delineation of vessel segments, fewer artifacts, higher image quality, and a higher CR (p < 0.05). Good-to-excellent interobserver agreement (κ: 0.65–1.00) was obtained between the two radiologists. CONCLUSION: Compared with conventional TOF, sparse TOF can achieve equivalent image quality in a reduced duration. Furthermore, using the same acquisition time, sparse TOF could improve the delineation of vessels and decrease image artifacts.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: Asthma affects approximately 30 million patients in China; however, tiotropium data for Chinese patients is limited. This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of tiotropium in Chinese patients with moderate symptomatic asthma. METHODS: A post hoc subgroup analysis was conducted on 430 Chinese patients pooled from two 24-week, replicate phase 3 trials (NCT01172808 and NCT01172821), in which they received once-daily tiotropium 2.5 µg (Tio R2.5) or 5 µg (Tio R5) (n = 106 or 109, respectively), twice-daily salmeterol 50 µg (Sal 50) (n = 110), or placebo (n = 105), while maintaining inhaled corticosteroids (ICS). The co-primary endpoints assessed in week 24 were forced expiratory volume in 1 second (FEV1) peak0–3h response, trough FEV1 response, and responder rate as assessed using the Asthma Control Questionnaire (ACQ). RESULTS: For both FEV1 peak0–3h responses and trough FEV1 responses, the mean treatment differences were greater for Tio R2.5, Tio R5, and Sal 50 compared with placebo at 0.249 L, 0.234 L, and 0.284 L, and 0.172 L, 0.180 L, and 0.164 L, respectively (P< 0.001). The ACQ responder rate in placebo, Tio R2.5, Tio R5, and Sal 50 was 58.7%, 62.3%, 59.3%, and 69.1%, respectively. Furthermore, 11 (2.6%) of 430 patients had serious adverse events (Tio R5, n = 4; Tio R2.5, n = 1; Sal 50, n = 1; and placebo, n = 5). CONCLUSIONS: Once-daily tiotropium, as add-on to medium-dose ICS, was effective and well tolerated for Chinese patients with moderate symptomatic asthma, consistent with the main analysis.

ABSTRACT

Uterine fibroids are benign diseases with high incidence and unknown pathogenesis.Currently, fibroid excavation or hysterectomy is the most commonly used treatment, but for women who require conservative treatment or with fertility requirements, there is still no optimal treatment option. At present,GnRH agonists/antagonists,selective progesterone receptor antagonists, levonorgestrel sustained release, uterine artery embolization,high-intensity focused ultrasound and other non-traditional surgical treatments provide new treatment options for conservative treatment of uterine fibroids from different angles.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>Objective</b>To evaluate the efficacy and safety of intracytoplasmic morphologically selected sperm injection (IMSI) versus intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) in in vitro fertilization (IVF) for couples with male factor infertility.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Using the Cochrane system evaluation method, we searched MEDLINE, EMBASE, CENTRAL, ClinicalTrials.gov, and SinoMed and manually searched the reference lists of the included studies and relevant reviews for randomized controlled trials (RCT) comparing ICSI and IMSI published from 1992 to July 2017. We performed a meta-analysis on the included literature with the RevMan 5.3 software and subgroup analyses due to the prominent clinical heterogeneity of the patients.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Of the 280 articles retrieved, 8 RCTs were included, involving 1 741 IVF cycles (842 cycles of IMSI versus 899 cycles of ICSI). There was no evidence for any significant difference between IMSI and ICSI in the live birth rate in the subgroup of infertility induced by pure male factors (RR = 1.31, 95% CI: 0.68-2.51; very low quality evidence from 1 RCT with 77 cycles) but an association of IMSI with an increased clinical pregnancy rate (RR = 1.46, 95% CI: 1.02-2.07; low quality evidence from 4 RCTs with 813 cycles), nor was there any evidence for that in the live birth rate (RR = 0.88, 95% CI: 0.60-1.31; low quality evidence from 1 RCT with 255 cycles) or clinical pregnancy rate (RR = 1.03, 95% CI: 0.86-1.23; moderate quality evidence from 3 RCTs with 851 cycles) in the subgroup of infertility caused by accompanying male factors.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>The evidence is of low quality for the association of IMSI with an increased rate of clinical pregnancy and is not sufficient to support the routine use of IMSI in IVF for male factor infertility.</p>
